It was mentioned in our meeting yesterday that Thanksgiving was one young father's favorite holiday. I think it is the favorite holiday for many of us. It is a day to enjoy family. And sometimes it is a day to struggle with family relationships. But whether it is a day of pure bliss or one of wishing I was sitting by someone else at the table, it is a day to count my blessings.
As we sit around our tables I am grateful that my children appreciate fresh, home cooked food. I am grateful for a daughter and two sons who have learned to prepare food and seem to take pleasure in both the preparation and the meal. All three appreciate the importance eating together in creating healthy families, both physically, emotionally and spiritually.
We are blessed with such an abundance of food that sometimes I know I do not appreciate the great gift this is. Our salad the other night was graced with persimmons from my tree and pommegranets from my brother's bushes. Just the color combination, the deep green of the lettuce with the orange and deep pink of the fruits was a pleasure, and the taste spoke of autumn.
As we set the table on Thursday I will use some of Nate's bowls for the olives, and cranberries. Another gift, from Nate's hands to our lips. This new podcast on the Cricket and Seagull is a wonderful interview with Joe Bennion, who I've mentioned before. It seems a fitting interview to share at Thanksgiving.
As Bennion, I am grateful to have a career that is a blessing to my life, a job that allows me to live in harmony with my beliefs. I am also grateful for the red leaves on the "snowball" bush by the studio, my own little bit of fall color in California.
